Here is an introduction to how easy it is to start using Digital
Rights Management (DRM) with MediaKey. There are two ways to protect
and encrypt your media. The first is the
MediaKey Bulk Encoder
which will encrypt your .wmv and .wmv files. This is by far the
fastest and easiest way. The second way is
Windows Media Encoder which can
encrypt your media at the same time it encodes it.
MediaKey recommends that you read the
page called
How does
DRM work for Consumers. This explains how little the
viewing/playing process is changed when you use
DRM to protect your digital media.
This means that consumers will not experience the hassle of new technology
and thereby continue as loyal and happy consumers.

How to protect your content using MediaKey Bulk Encoder
Once you are set up with a MediaKey account, we will send you a
MediaKey Bulk Encoder via e-mail which you can use in order to encrypt
your digital media.
MediaKey Bulk Encoder
To encrypt your .wmv and .wma files simply browse to the directory
containing your files and select "Encode". If your media files are not
in wmv or wma format, you need to re-encode them to the above mentioned format.
After you have encrypted your media with MediaKey Bulk Encoder,
a sub-folder called "DRM" is created. This folder now contains the encrypted files.
It has also sent information regarding the encrypted files to
the MediaKey system where you now can login and configure licensing
terms and media title. You now need to login to MediaKey Admin and
choose Manage Licenses.
MediaKey Admin: Manage Licenses
Here you can create a licensedefinition with multiple properties such as
duration, allow tranfer to CD, expiration time and authentication module.
The authentication module can be "Remote Authentication". MediaKey will ask the user
for a username and password and if it is not expired
to your memberarea, the system will automatically issue a license to the
consumer. There are various authentication modules to choose from.
You are now ready to assign title and license to the media you have
encrypted. This is done under "Manage Media Files" where your Bulk Encoded
files will be found under the folder "BULK". Under "Edit" you can apply
a title and change the media group. This way it is easier for you to keep
track of what media files that belong to each other. For example "Promo Content",
"Trailers" and so on. Under Licenses you can
assign one of your licensedefinitions to you file.

Windows Media Encoder
How to protect your content using Windows Media Encoder

If your media is waiting to be encoded to WMV or WMA format, you might want
to encrypt your media with DRM as you are encoding your media. This can be achieved
with Windows Media Encoder (WME). In this guide we will not go through all the
encoding settings that WME is capable of, simply the DRM settings. The DRM
settings can be reached at the
Security tab under
Properties.

Before you can use your own Encoding Profile, you need to go to the Admin
website at MediaKey. Under "Setup and installation" you will find the link
"Install signed application on your computer". Open this page and make sure
to install the ActiveX component as it will install a DRM module on your
computer. Once installed you can go back to download your DRM profile at
"Download your DRM Profile".
You are now ready to encode and encrypt with WME. In the Security tab,
click the "Use DRM to protect content from unauthorized use" and select
"MediaKey.com Protection" in the DRM profile. Editing of the profile is
not possible or allowed since they are issued by MediaKey. Once you click
Apply, WME will generate a Key ID which you need to keep until you can create
the media file in MediaKey Admin.

Once you have your media's Key ID, you can create it in MediaKey Admin
in "Manage Media Files" under "Encoded Media Files". Click "Register new
media file". Here you can fill in the Title, Description, Group and Key
ID (from WME). The field "Import from Token" can be left blank.
